The Manzoni space is a collaboration between Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio and JLK Design Studio. The main purpose behind the opening of this restaurant is the fact that Dixon and his team intended to have a more permanent presence in Milan instead of showcasing year after year in different places. As Tom Dixon states on the official page:
“There is nothing dustier than a conventional lighting and furniture showroom. But with The Manzoni, people are able to experience our new collections in an active context.’Â
One of the main highlights of this establishment is Fat, Tom Dixon’s new upholstery chair range made for a different purpose when it comes to comfort: essentially hug the human body and allow the subject to try many different sitting positions. The chair is made from moulded foam with a metal leg launching in high gloss black lacquer and made to order upholstery.
Aside from the Fat collection, within the restaurant, you can also find Spring and Opal. The first one is a series of three pendant lamps made up of stainless-steel strips, while the second is will consist of two pendant lights, two-floor lights, and a surface light, all of them made with lighting translucent globes made of tinted white Opalescent polycarbonate. Other three products that you will also find within the restaurant are the felt lamps, the slab chair, and the beautiful Primavera table.
In the words of Tom Dixon himself “The Manzoni is more than a restaurant (…) It is also an experimental space, a theatrical backdrop.” You can visit The Manzoni at Via Alessandro Manzoni, 5, 520121 Milano. It’s situated next to Teatro Alla Scala within a 5 Minute walk north of the Duomo di Milan.
