Porta Nuova covers an overall area of more than 300,000 square meters and reconnects three different parts of the city as a natural development of the existing neighborhoods.

The whole district has been designed through three masterplan schemes for each of the individual projects Garibaldi, Varesine and Isola, respectively by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects, and Boeri Studio. The architecture of the single buildings has been designed by architects selected through international competitions.

Garibaldi and Isola districts, among some of the most vibrant and interesting in the city, are renowned for their cultural assets and nightlife scene.

The heart of the area is the large raised square erected next to the Garibaldi railway station (dedicated to architect and designer Gae Aulenti ) and crowned by three glass skyscrapers designed by César Pelli, including the Unicredit tower.

Continuing towards the Isola district, we can see the towers of the Bosco Verticale, designed by the architect Stefano Boeri and winner in 2014 of the prestigious International Highrise Award for the most beautiful skyscraper in the truly unique architectural.

These residential towers have in their own structure 900 trees and more than 2,000 plants distributed on the facades of the two buildings depending on solar exposure.

Crossing the district and heading towards the Isola neighborhood, we reach the Palazzo Lombardia, the headquarters of the Region and the creation of the famous study by New York architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
