Don’t Miss The New Fornasetti Designer Experience – The legacy of Piero Fornasetti can be found throughout Milan, but now you can get closer than ever to his fantastical world with the recently launched Fornasetti Designer Experience by Mandarin Oriental Milan.
Milan is known as Italy’s chicest city and it’s synonymous with high design, cool style and sophisticated creativity. It’s this and more that live within one of the city’s most famous residents, the whimsical artist Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988), whose talents included painting, sketching, sculpting, and wow-worthy interior designing.
The experience starts with a night at The Fornasetti Suite, a palatial suite that includes original pieces and imaginative furniture—not to mention all the luxuries expected from the elegant Mandarin Oriental.
After relaxing in your sweet surrealist suite, indulge in a three-course lunch with wine pairings at the two-Michelin-starred Seta, helmed by Antonio Guida. There are decorative Fornasetti plates involved, featuring the lovely face of Fornasetti’s muse, the Belle Époque Italian opera singer, Lina Cavalieri, whose image he encountered in a magazine.
Next, you’re treated to an exclusive two-hour tour of the official Fornasetti Store, which is more like a museum and displays a different side of the artist in each room and floor. This private, after hours experience is hosted and curated by a Fornasetti specialist, ready and willing to spill eccentric secrets of this Milanese mastermind. Barnaba Fornasetti, the only child of Fornasetti, as well as the Artistic Director of Fornasetti, calls the program “a unique portal into the world of Fornasetti, through a privileged experience that is immersive and multi-sensory in nature.”
At the end of the experience, you’ll walk away with a bespoke Fornasetti piece that pays tribute to both the city and artist. Your new porcelain plate shows a hand-painted depiction of Milan’s famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade. Fornasetti first brought this design to life in 1979, but it has been reintroduced and reimagined by the current Fornasetti creative team in honor of the Mandarin Oriental’s epic Fornasetti Suite.
The Fornasetti Designer Experience is priced from €6,500 per night and is available through December 31, 2018.
